First we drove the wrong way a few times, trying to find the right way down. Even when we found the right place to park the car, which is called Ambolo, we were unsure about where to go from there. But its not the worst place to be a little bit lost, because when looking in the wrong direction there was a beautiful view over the island Illa del Descobridor, which translates to Discoverer’s Island. While it does have a very catchy name, it seems that the only thing they discovered on Discoverer’s Island was a big colony of Cormorants. But to be honest, I actually thought that Cormorants was a species of ants, Cormor-ants. It turns out to be a bird, so I guess i did discover something. Besides of the bird, the island should also be surrounded by some interesting marine life. Maybe one day i can discover it myself and maybe even see a Cormorant bird.
We finally found the right path to the cliff beach, which was cut of by a fence. The path is pretty overgrown and can be a bit hard to see in the start, but when you get through that part it is more clear where to go. The way down is a bit steep and some places there might be missing a step and you are also gonna walk a bit on uneven rocks, so don’t use your slippy sandals when walking here. When you are finally down on Cala les Pesqueres you can find a nice place somewhere on the rocks. Bring an umbrella or a big blanket for shadow. We used a big blanket which we hang from little hollow cliff by fastened with some heavy stones.
To get ind the water there is no other way than to jump straight into it. Don’t worry, the water here is something like 5-6 meters deep, so you are not gonna hit the bottom from jumping ind. Regarding of how brave you are, there is different heights you can jump from. I’ve seen some jumping down from 8-10 meters. I personally is not that brave yet and are still gathering strength to jump from around 5 meters, but i think that is pretty cool and brave too, and it is definitely enough to give me an adrenaline kick.
To get back up there is a rope that has been dropped down into the water. Climbing back up can be a bit of a struggle. You have to step on the cliff, so it is a “must have” to bring swimming shoes. Otherwise I saw some people swimming around with there normal sneakers, so there is also that option.
We jumped in the water with our snorkeling gear and swam to the left. looking down into the water there are a lot of fish to investigate and appreciate. We reach Cueva del Llop Marí, an astonishing cave in the water. We swam inside it to check it out. With our swim goggles, we found a stone underwater in the middle of the cave, that was high enough for us to stand with half of our body out of the water. The sounds from the waves hitting the cave walls was huge and a bit frightening. Looking up, we could see long dripstones hanging from the cave ceiling. We explored a bit more of the cave, and some places we were even able to go out of the water. An amazing experience and definitely worth seeing yourself.
But everything comes with a price, and in this case its the walk back up to the parking. We packed our stuff and began the walk. In the very beginning of the walk back up we went the wrong way twice. When we finally found the right path, there was a cool and very round cave hole, that I had to check out! I climbed up to it and went inside. The cave was small but I was able to fit. There wasn’t a lot to see the little cave, but it was a fun to explore. Walking further up, the sweat started dripping and we had to stop several times.
But even if the way back up is a bit of a struggle, it definitely pays off. If you are ever around, go and check out Cala les Pesqueres.
